Description
Product Overview
The PCT (Procalcitonin) Test Kit is designed for quantitative determination of procalcitonin in human whole blood, serum or plasma using fluorescence immunoassay technology. Procalcitonin is a peptide precursor of calcitonin that increases significantly during systemic bacterial infections and sepsis.
Measurement of procalcitonin levels assists clinicians in early diagnosis of sepsis and bacterial infections and helps differentiate bacterial infections from viral infections.
Clinical Significance
Procalcitonin is an important biomarker used in clinical laboratories for detection of bacterial infections and sepsis.
Measurement of procalcitonin is useful for:
• Early diagnosis of sepsis
• Detection of systemic bacterial infections
• Differentiation between bacterial and viral infections
• Monitoring response to antibiotic therapy
• Assessment of infection severity
Key Features
• Quantitative fluorescence immunoassay
• High sensitivity detection of procalcitonin
• Rapid results within minutes
• Suitable for hospital laboratories and intensive care units
• Compatible with immunofluorescence analyzers
Sample Type
Whole blood
Serum
Plasma
Test Time
Approximately 15 minutes
Compatible Analyzers
Compatible with fluorescence immunoassay analyzers including GETEIN 1100, GETEIN 1160 and FIA 8000 analyzers.
Principle of the Test
The PCT Test Kit is based on fluorescence immunoassay technology. The sample reacts with fluorescence labeled antibodies specific to procalcitonin. The fluorescence signal generated is measured by the immunofluorescence analyzer and is proportional to the concentration of procalcitonin present in the sample.
Applications
This product can be effectively utilized in:
• Hospital laboratories
• Intensive care units
• Emergency departments
• Infection diagnosis
• Sepsis monitoring
Intended Use
The PCT (Procalcitonin) Test Kit is intended for in vitro diagnostic use for quantitative determination of procalcitonin in human whole blood, serum or plasma using fluorescence immunoassay analyzers in clinical laboratories and hospital settings.
Related Tests
Related infection and inflammatory marker tests include CRP Test Kit, IL-6 Test Kit and hs-CRP Test Kit used in hospital diagnostic laboratories.
